Welcome to my website! My name is Annika (rhymes with Monica) and I am an artist and art teacher. I also love chameleons. Follow along for my journey as an artist and chameleon-lover.

In my personal art practice, I mostly work with oil paints and charcoal, and I also enjoy creating illustrations and comics. When I’m not making art, I love listening to audiobooks, podcasts, and music, exploring nature, traveling, and going to museums and galleries to find inspiration.

Artist Statement

I am inspired by memories, time, and layers. I often use photographs as references for my work. A photograph is a still image in time, almost like a paused frame in a movie, and it often sparks a memory of the events and emotions associated with that moment. I like to layer these moments on top of each other, painting still images that spur a movie of memories in my mind. Or sometimes, I simply draw or paint a moment that captures an emotion. Nostalgia, home and place, and solitude are themes I focus on in many of my works.
